As I let you know last week, I was selected to be one of the four Canadian bloggers who would throw a dinner party on December 7th, featuring a special recipe from the Chicken Farmers of Canada website perfectly paired with two specially selected wines from Chateau des Charmes... all the while keeping you up to date on Twitter & Instagram using the #winewithchicken hashtag.
I wasn't nervous at all until the day of the party... no doubt due to the dreams I had the night before, which involved serving dessert directly after apps and totally forgetting to put the chickens in the oven. Luckily neither of those two things actually happened, and the recipe I was given to prepare, Christmas Truffle Chicken, was simple and tasty... the pan jus was incredible, and the chicken was so moist.
The wines that were sent to me by Chateau des Charmes to go with the chicken were their 2008 Pinot Noir and secondly their 2009 Cabernet-Merlot. Being about the furthest a group can be from professional sommeliers, all five of us agreed that the Pinot Noir was a nice 'light' tasting red wine that went well with the chicken. The Cabernet-Merlot was described as 'woody', both myself and another guest actually preferred it to the Pinot Noir for general drinkabilty.
I kept the sides simple and went with two all-new recipes... why not go all the way, right? I served the chicken on a cauliflower purée aside maple balsamic roasted root veggies and winter fruit, which I made in the lovely new Emile Henry oven pan I was sent (I'll share both recipes soon, promise). For dessert... we had a variety of Christmas cookies and candy, most including dark chocolate, which also went oh so well with the wine.
One of the best parts of this prize/task (besides the food) is that I got the opportunity to make my first video... and oh, did I learn a lot doing it (like that I held my camera wrong the whole time).
Without further ado, I present to you the best thing you'll see today, a video I made to document my whole #WinewithChicken dinner party experience (please be gentle!)...
The party was a great experience, and I had a fantastic time, nerves and all. Thank you to everyone involved, from sponsors to guests to Aunts looking after children.
