Happy 100th Birthday Oreo!

When I found out that Oreos were turning 100 this year, I couldn't believe it!  I had no idea that they had been around for so long. While I don't keep them around the house a lot for fear of eating one after another, after another, life would be pretty bleak without the occasional Oreo or other 'cookies and cream' loaded sweet treat.

I decided that to celebrate the big day (March 6th, to be exact) Chelsea and I would make some Oreo Pops, like ones I had pinned on Pinterest, but alas, they turned out harder to 'stick' than I had planned, even when using Double Stufs, next time I'll use the smaller lollypop sticks.

So a big batch of Oreo pops turned into 2 pops and a few chocolate-dipped Oreos.  I'm not complaining though, they were crazy delicious and so fun for her to decorate.

I got to open up and try my new Chocolate Decorator from Epicure Selections.  Made of silicone, you can simply fill it with chocolate (or in this case, candy melting wafers) and microwave it to melt.  Normally when I melt in the microwave, it burns quickly and I can't get it smooth.  The silicone seems to be a great insulator, because it melted quickly on high, but did not burn.

Once melted, you put on the cover and one of the two nozzles (it comes with fine and medium).  I thought the way the nozzle fit on that it would shoot off... but it didn't, even with a lot of squeezing.

So Chelsea was in heaven and I was happy to find a way to quickly melt chocolate with less mess!

Not bad for a two year old, with a little help from Mommy.

Of course, there was no way she was going to do all that without getting a sample...

Happy 100th Birthday Oreo, you don't look a day over 39!!!

  2. Well isn't that a clever foodie device! Absolutely genius and I have a tendency to scorch chocolate too. Thank you for letting us know about it!
