BHBC - Diary of a Mad Fat Girl

This month in the BlogHer Book Club, we are discussing Stephanie McAfee's Diary of a Mad Fat Girl.  I have to say, as soon as I read the title of the this book I knew I wanted to read it. When I received the book and got a look at the cover, I really knew I wanted to read it... it just looked so fun!

It delivered.

I read this book like I was listening to a friend 'dish', it was very easy to read and I really enjoyed  Stephanie's writing style... it was refreshing.  You know if you go out and do a long workout and then later in the day spoil yourself with a little treat?  That's the way I felt when I was reading this book... I have pretty hectic days most of the time and to curl up with such a fun, spirited and 'spunky' for lack of a better term, novel was a much needed mini-vacation for me.   Never a dull moment; even though some pretty serious subjects are touched upon, the character's distinct personalities keep things exciting and light, all things considered.

It's also very cool that the author first self-published this as an e-book and it was on the New York Times Best-seller list for six weeks before she signed with a publisher (Woo hoo Penguin!).

To find out more about feisty Graciela "Ace" Jones and what's gotten her so mad, join the discussion...

This is a paid review for BlogHer Book Club.  The opinions expressed are, as always, my own.
